The Difference Pre Sale Car Detailing Can Make in Your Vehicle Sale
Selling your car can be a stressful process. The first impression a potential buyer has of your vehicle can make or break a sale. This is where pre sale car detailing comes in. It's not just about a quick wash; it's about transforming your car into a showroom-worthy gem that attracts buyers and justifies a higher asking price.
Beyond the Surface: What Detailing Entails
Pre-sale detailing goes far beyond a simple car wash. A professional detailer will meticulously clean every nook and cranny of your vehicle, both inside and out and do the car ceramic coating in Melbourne. This typically includes:
Exterior: A thorough wash, clay bar treatment to remove embedded contaminants, polishing to restore shine and remove minor scratches, and waxing or sealant application for protection. They will also clean the wheels, tyres, and trim.
Interior: Deep cleaning of carpets and upholstery, stain removal, cleaning of dashboards, consoles, and door panels, and even odour elimination.
This comprehensive approach creates a dramatic difference. It's not just about making the car look good; it's about restoring it to its near-original condition.
The Impact on Your Sale
The benefits of pre-sale detailing are numerous:
Enhanced Curb Appeal: A sparkling clean car is simply more attractive. It grabs attention and makes a positive first impression, increasing the likelihood of a potential buyer taking a closer look.
Higher Perceived Value: A detailed car looks newer and better maintained, justifying a higher asking price. Buyers are more willing to pay a premium for a vehicle that appears to have been well cared for.
Faster Sale: In a competitive market, a detailed car stands out from the crowd. It attracts more interest and can lead to a quicker sale, reducing the time and hassle of advertising and showing your vehicle.
Improved Negotiation Position: When your car looks its best, you have a stronger negotiating position. Buyers are less likely to nitpick minor flaws and are more willing to meet your asking price.
Pre-sale car detailing is not just about making it look pretty; it's about maximizing its value, attracting serious buyers, and ultimately achieving a successful and profitable sale. By presenting your car in its best possible light, you significantly increase your chances of getting the price you want and selling it quickly.

Mobile Car Detailing vs. Traditional Car Washes: Which is Better?
Convenience has become a priority. This trend is evident in the automotive industry, where traditional car washes are facing competition from a newer concept: mobile car detailing. Both options offer car care services, but they differ significantly in terms of approach, convenience, and level of service. Let's delve into the pros and cons of each to determine which one is the better fit for you.

Mobile Car Detailing
Mobile car detailing is a relatively new concept that involves professional detailers coming to your location to clean and polish your car. Pre sale car detailing typically offer a wide range of services, including exterior detailing, interior detailing, and paint correction.
Pros:
Convenience: Mobile car detailing eliminates the need for you to drive your car to a car wash.
Customization: You can customize the services to meet your specific needs and budget.
Quality Control: Mobile detailers often have a higher level of expertise and can provide a more personalized and thorough service.
Environmental Friendliness: Many mobile detailers use eco-friendly products and techniques.
Cons:
Cost: Mobile car detailing can be more expensive than traditional car washes, especially for comprehensive packages.
Availability: Mobile detailing services may not be available in all areas.
Traditional Car Washes
Traditional car washes are the more familiar option, often found in gas stations or standalone facilities. They typically offer a range of services, from basic exterior washes to more comprehensive packages that include interior cleaning and waxing.
Pros:
Convenience: Traditional car washes are often located in convenient locations, making it easy to stop by on your way to work or home.
Variety of Services: They offer a wide range of services, catering to different needs and budgets.
Quick and Efficient: Many traditional car washes have efficient systems that can clean your car quickly.
Cons:
Quality Control: The quality of service can vary depending on the specific location and the employees working there.
Limited Customization: You may have less control over the specific services included in a package.
Environmental Impact: Some traditional car washes use chemicals that can harm the environment.
By carefully considering these factors, you can make an informed decision about whether mobile car detailing or traditional car washes are the right choice for you.

Benefits Of Installing Paint Protection Film On Your Car
Are you worried about keeping your car's paint protected and in good condition? Don't worry, car paint protection filmin Perth is the solution you are looking for. In this blog, we will introduce you to everything you need to know about this amazing protection tool. Discover what it is, what its benefits are and how it is applied. Do not miss it!

What is car paint protection film?
The paint protection film is a clear coating that is applied over a car's paint to protect it from scuffs, scratches, UV rays, and other potential damage. This film is designed to be durable and resistant, without compromising the aesthetic appearance of the car. It is composed of materials such as polyurethane or thermoplastic polyurethane, which are known for their resistance and durability.
Types of paint protection films for cars
There are different types of protective films available on the market. Here we present the most common ones:
[1] Transparent films
Clear films are the most popular due to their ability to protect paint without altering its original appearance. They are virtually invisible and offer complete protection against external damage.
[2] Color films
Colored films provide a more personalized option for protecting your car's paint. These films are available in a wide range of colors and can be used to highlight certain areas of the vehicle or to create a unique effect.
[3] Textured films
Textured films offer a more grainy or rough look, which can add an extra layer of protection to the paint. These films can also provide a different and distinctive look to the vehicle, making it stand out from the crowd.
Benefits of Car Paint Protection Film
If you are thinking about protecting your car's paint, protective film is an excellent option. Here we present some of the most important benefits it offers:
Protection against scuffs and scratches
The protective film acts as a physical barrier between the paint and external elements, such as rocks, sharp objects, or tree branches. This layer prevents scuffs and scratches from damaging the car's original paint, keeping it in excellent condition.
UV resistance
The sun's UV rays can damage a car's paint, causing a gradual deterioration of color and appearance. The protective film is designed to resist the damaging effects of UV rays, keeping your car's paint in optimal condition for longer.
Greater durability of the original paint
Applying the protective film helps preserve your car's original factory paint. This means the paint will last longer and stay in better condition, which in turn will increase the resale value of the vehicle.
Ease of cleaning and maintenance
The protective film is easy to clean and maintain. You only need to use mild soap and water to remove dirt and residue that accumulates on the surface. Additionally, the film prevents the adhesion of stains and water lines, making maintenance even easier.
Preserving the resale value of the car
A car with paint in good condition has a higher resale value. By protecting your car's paint with a protective film, you are ensuring that it remains in optimal condition, which in turn will lead to higher resale value in the future. It is a worthwhile investment.
Maintenance and care of car paint protection film
To keep your protective film in good condition, it is important to follow some proper maintenance and care tips. Here we present some recommendations:
Proper film cleaning
To clean the film, use mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh or abrasive chemicals as they may damage or wear away the protective layer. Use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth to clean the surface in gentle, circular motions. If there are stains or residue that cannot be easily removed, consult a professional for assistance.
Recommendations to avoid damage to the film
Avoid using high-pressure cleaners as they can damage the film and affect its adhesion. Also, avoid using rough brushes or sponges that may scratch the surface of the film. Whenever possible, park your car in a covered or shaded location to avoid direct sun exposure, which can cause fading or long-term damage.
Film repair in case of damage
If the protective film becomes damaged or shows signs of wear, it is important to address the issue promptly to prevent further damage. If the damage is minor, you can try to repair it yourself using commercially available film repair kits. However, if the damage is significant, it is advisable to seek the help of a professional to ensure that the repair is done correctly and without compromising the integrity of the film.
Conclusion
Do you want to have a paint protection film? Call the experts at Prestige Car Detailers. They guarantee you quality and personalized work according to your needs as well as the best quality and price ratio for the installation of protective film on all types of vehicles. You can also book a Pre-sale car detail service in Canning Vale. Their certified technicians use high-end methods to give the best quality service for each vehicle.

8:15 PM. Just a little over an hour until you’d be in your car driving home, finally able to rest your feet after a busy shift at work. The post-dinner rush had begun to ease, and despite the physical and mental exhaustion wearing you thin, you found yourself busy with pre-closing in hopes of leaving the store as quickly as possible. Working part-time at a boba cafe had to be the least demanding of your various commitments, but that didn’t make the eight hour shifts any less of a drag. Luckily, the gig paid well and was easy enough to balance with your busy class schedule and extracurriculars. You found yourself mindlessly wiping down tables, the lo-fi playlist left on by the morning crew fading into the background of your mind. Your coworker’s voice could be heard addressing a customer, obviously in the middle of a sale. Most nights you worked with just one other person, allowing one of you to manage the front while the other worked on various cleaning tasks. Tonight was lucky, because it was just you and Jongseob. Jongseob was your favorite closing partner for a variety of reasons - not that he’d have any idea, the two of you weren’t friends by any means. However, he had something that the rest of your coworkers lacked: work ethic. You knew that if you left him at the register, he’d be sure to have the kitchen cleaned in addition to taking care of any customers that stopped by. He was reliable in that sense; always hardworking, never late and he had even picked up a couple of your shifts in the past. Because of this, you respected him - but you knew the two of you were living completely different lives and therefore made little effort to get to know him. You were getting ready to matriculate into the graduate program of your dreams, and he was… well, he was a full-time employee at a bubble tea franchise. You didn’t look down at him for this, but you were more than okay with keeping him at an arm’s length - especially based on the way your other coworkers spoke of him.
“Did you hear Seob is back with Emma again? Yeah, I thought they had broken up too, but she was all over him at Stephen’s last night. Better not tell Vivian…” Even just earlier today, you’d heard the morning shift whispering about him as you were clocking in. They never spared any details in front of you, acting almost as if you didn’t exist. Not that this bothered you - if anything, you felt relieved to be spared from the drama. You were here for the hourly $18 plus tips, and that was about it. Nonetheless, you’d be lying if you said you didn’t listen when his name came up in their gossiping. Jongseob was undeniably attractive and it was a challenge to not be interested in him. He was as charming in his appearance as he was in his demeanor, and you weren’t surprised in the slightest that he had various women vying for his attention - though you did have enough self-respect to not join their ranks (or so you thought). He was confident and well-spoken, and you found his quirky sense of fashion to be unique and enticing. Even today, his perfectly-styled platinum blonde shag paired with a tee that barely covered his midriff could have him mistaken for an influencer in the wild. However, what was most attractive about him had to be his attention to detail. Jongseob never forgot a regular’s name or their order, often conversing with them about their personal lives with a look of genuine interest on his face. Despite barely talking to you, he always remembered to ask about your pets by name, and had been the only one of your coworkers to remember to ask about the status of your graduate school application. When you finally were able to tell him you’d been accepted into the program, he brought you your favorite drink from a nearby coffee shop you’d mentioned to him in passing. It was his ability to make people feel like they were special that made him so alluring and also so dangerous. Even in these small moments he had made you feel seen - and you were sure that the other women in his life held similar sentiments.
Despite his attractiveness, you had been burned by charismatic men like him before and didn’t really feel like repeating mistakes of the past. Besides, you barely had enough time to get the proper amount of sleep each night - the last thing you needed was a workplace distraction to ruin your life. Pulling yourself from your thoughts, you check your watch after having successfully cleaned the dining room. 8:43 PM. Time flies when you’re busy thinking about the coworker you tell yourself you aren’t thinking about. You round the corner into the kitchen where said coworker was found scrubbing the emptied boba vats, his back facing you. You could see the slight protrusion of his earbuds from where you stood, and for a moment you listened to him quietly hum along to whatever he was listening to whilst scrubbing away at the sugar-crusted kitchenware. You mentally scolded yourself for staring and awkwardly snuck past him to reach the front of house, trying to think about anything other than how attractive he was when he was being a productive member of society. With the dining room all cleared out, you made the executive decision to turn off the open sign as well as the online ordering system. You couldn’t find it within yourself to feel bad for the potential customers who may have tried to come during the last ten minutes of operations - in your opinion, they deserved to be let down. Or maybe you were just jaded after having worked so many years in food service. You began to reconcile the cash drawer, thoughts drifting to what you might eat later tonight, when a familiar voice calling your name startled you.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you there,” you turned to face Jongseob, who stared at you with a polite smile, his back pressed against the counter. His posture was relaxed, and your eyes followed the curve of his arms as they crossed beneath his chest, a silver bracelet collecting at the dip of his right wrist. “I’m all done with the back now. This might be record time for us.” Even just hearing him refer to the two of you as a unit flustered you, yet you made sure to show no signs of this.
“Yeah, I think you’re right,” you said curtly while handing him his share of the night’s cash tips. “I just need to finish with the register and lock up the front, then we’ll be good to go.”
“I can finish up out front. I’ll be right back,” he responded, not missing a beat. You watched as he paced back through the kitchen and then into the dining room. If only all of your coworkers had his initiative. You noticed yet again that you were staring, and it took a moment to pull yourself back into the present and return to counting the bills in your hands. What has gotten into you today? Jongseob’s always been hot; tonight was no exception. However, it seemed like now - more than ever - you were distracted by it. In all fairness, you were having a bit of a dry spell at the moment, so it’s not like there was anything wrong with a pinch of lusting over a qualified candidate. Isn’t that what girlhood is all about? Your self rationalization was successful, and sooner rather than later it was time to clock out. You flipped the lights off and grabbed your belongings, heading to the back to punch your PIN code in before passing through the rear exit. You were usually the last person to leave the building, your coworkers seldom spending any more time at the store than what was absolutely necessary. Tonight was different - Jongseob stood blocking the door, the lack of light in the building disguising his face. At first, you thought there might be an issue with the PIN pad - but you soon realized he was staring at you with an unreadable expression.
“Everything alright?” You asked inquisitively. You felt self-conscious; it was awkward to talk with him when there wasn’t a work-related reason to do so.
“Yeah,” he said plainly, “Just thought I’d wait for you to finish up. It’s late, want me to walk you to your car?”
Well, this was weird. You’re pretty sure you’d been just fine walking to your car every other evening you’d closed. The parking lot was within sight of the exit, and even after 9 PM there were plenty of people walking around the shopping center. Why ask now?
“I’m good, but thanks for the offer,” you said as you turned from him to clumsily jam your fingers into the PIN pad, designating the end of your shift. Just as you turned once to push the exit door open, you felt Jongseob’s hand graze the back of your arm.
“Why are you in such a rush? You almost forgot this,” he said, presenting you with the half-finished green tea you’d been sipping on earlier this evening. In complete honesty, you’d forgotten about it hours ago and were more than okay with leaving it for the morning shift to deal with.
“Oh thanks, almost forgot to toss that,” you said, taking the drink from his hand and chucking it into the trash bin just an arms length away. Now, you could finally escape from the discomfort, and you began to push open the door –
“Wait.”
Jongseob placed his hand over yours on the door handle and you immediately flinched away from the contact, turning to face him instead with your back against the wall. Undoubtedly, this was puzzling behavior from him. Was he getting a kick out of your suffering? You stared at him, ignoring the newfound warmth on your skin from where he’d grazed you, waiting for an explanation. He still appeared calm and collected, but his actions suggested otherwise. He brushed a hand through his hair, fixing his posture as he began to speak.
“I feel like we’ve been working together for quite a while now, but I still know so little about you,” he said, softly smiling at you. “Let me walk you to your car.”
You had no idea how to respond to that, so you simply nodded in response and resumed opening the exit door. You heard him follow behind you, his steps increasing in volume as he joined you at your side.
“So,” he started, “are you busy this evening? I was thinking about grabbing something to eat on my way home…”
You weren’t busy, but you also had zero intention of prolonging whatever was conspiring between the two of you.
“Yeah, I have plans,” you said, unconsciously quickening your stride. You hated how quickly your heart was beating.
“You’re not very good at lying, are you?” Jongseob was now smirking at you. “You can just tell me you’re not interested. I don’t mind.”
The two of you had reached your car at this point, and his gaze was becoming increasingly harder to meet.
“It’s not that I’m not interested, but I’m sure we both have better things to be doing,” you said, looking at your feet. You weren’t trying to disappoint him, and your interest in him was certainly present… but this was risky territory. You were no mind reader, so you couldn’t be sure of his intentions. However, if the rumors you’d heard about him held any truth, you were sure this would be a waste of time for the both of you. The only plausible reasons you could propose for his sudden interest in you were that he was A) secretly a serial killer plotting his next victim, or B) horny and reaching for the low-hanging fruit. Neither of these scenarios had an outcome you felt keen on exploring, so better to retreat as quickly as possible.
“What does that even mean?” He chuckled. “You act so preoccupied around me. Is it so unimaginable that I might be interested in getting to know you better?”
“Actually, yes.” You said, regaining some confidence. “You’ve had the past six months to do that. Why now?”
“It’s not like I haven’t been trying,” he responded, “but you certainly don’t make it easy. You’ve never wanted to join when we hang out after closing. I kind of assumed you thought you were too good for us.”
Unfortunately, he wasn’t completely off. You genuinely had very little interest in your other coworkers. All they seemed to do was get drunk and start unnecessary drama with one another. It was a little too reminiscent of high school for your liking. However, his statement insinuated that you thought too highly of yourself to spend time with them - and you’d be lying if you said that didn’t sting a bit.
“You assumed incorrectly,” you started, “I’m just really busy. I don’t always have time to go out after work.”
“Yeah?” he said, “Busy being top of your class? Busy spending every moment as efficiently as possible?” His teasing made your cheeks flush but you held his stare. He took a step closer to you, and in turn you took a step back, feeling your car door behind you.
“I know it can’t be easy working as hard as you do,” he cooed. “You really deserve to celebrate your accomplishments, don’t you think? What’s the point of all this effort if you can’t find satisfaction in the process?” The way he spoke to you was almost condescending.
“I do find the process… satisfying.” You said, awkwardly. “What are you trying to imply?”
“I might not be as useless to you as you think I am,” he said, the same smug expression still present on his face. “I’ve been told I’m pretty good when it comes to providing stress relief, and you definitely seem a little -”
“That’s enough.” You cut him off. Yep, your intuition had been spot on. “Look, you’re hot but I don’t want to sleep with you. Can I go home now?”
“Who said I wanted to sleep with you? All I was trying to say is that you look stressed, and I’m a great listener. If you’d let me take you to dinner, I’m sure I could lend an ear to your troubles,” he replied without hesitation.
You so badly wanted to give in, but your pride wouldn’t let you. You wouldn’t be this easy.
“Thanks, but I’ll pass.” You said coolly, and turned to unlock your car. Despite the lack of enthusiasm in your voice, you were sure the blush on your cheeks and the heat on the tips of your ears betrayed you. Nonetheless, you were committed to the bit, throwing your belongings in the backseat and preparing to say goodbye to the man who had gone to such lengths to pursue you. For a moment you thought that would be the end of your bickering, when suddenly you felt Jongseob gently place his hand over your shoulder. You spun around to face him, closer than you’d been to him the entire night. At this distance, you could make out the outline of each individual eyelash coalescing around his eyes and the soft freckles that decorated the bridge of his nose. His lips looked so colorful in contrast to his soft skin and platinum hair, and something about the way he held your gaze conveyed a sliver of yearning. Damn, he was good at this.
“Have a good night then,” he said, and proceeded to tuck a strand of your loose hair behind your ear. “But don’t expect me to give up so easily next time. You’re so obvious, you know? It’s cute…” He smiled at you once again before stepping back, allowing you to regain your sense of personal space. “Drive safe, Y/N.”
And with that he turned his back to you and walked away, presumably to wherever he’d ended up parking. You found yourself still in a state of shock from the events of the past twenty minutes, trying to recalibrate and prepare yourself for the drive home. Sighing to yourself, you got in your car and began to drive, not even bothering to put on music with the current state you were in. When you got home, you noticed a text notification on your phone.
Jongseob (work): Hope you made it home safely
Jongseob (work): See you next week :)
Just seeing his name was enough to have you feeling butterflies. You left him on delivered and tried to remember what your life was like before whatever the fuck just happened with your coworker. Though it was painful to admit, you were already excited to see him again - for better or for worse.

American R&B singer Aliaune Thiam, professionally known as Akon, has long wanted to help Senegal, the country he grew up in. He started Akon Lighting Africa in 2014 to install cheap Chinese solar-powered lighting systems across the continent. He hoped to do something more significant for Senegal. But how to fund it?
The answer turned out to be the same one adopted by a growing number of governments and entrepreneurs: a mixture of cryptocurrency and urban planning. It’s a combination that offers the promise of development without any of the tricky details—and which tends to turn out to be little more than vaporware. There was Bitcoin City in El Salvador, but also Painted Rock in Nevada, Satoshi Island in Vanuatu, Cryptoland in Fiji, or the Crypto-Kingdom of Bitcointopia in Utah.
In 2018, Akon announced a new cryptocurrency, to be called “akoin.” Akoin would enable Africans to, as the singer put it at a launch event, “advance themselves independent of the government”—in some manner. Most importantly, akoin would fund the creation of Akon City, an advanced planned city to be built in Senegal. Akon announced akoin and Akon City at the Cannes Lions Festival in June 2018. Akon said in November of that year that he had “everything planned out” for the city. But both Akon City and the akoin token remained only ideas for many months.
Akon was interested by the promises of cryptocurrency—specifically, free money by some unclear mechanism—but he was not up on the details of its technical or financial issues: “I come with the concepts and let the geeks figure it out,” he said. The akoin team featured initial coin offering (ICO) entrepreneurs such as Lynn Liss of ICO Impact and Crystal Rose Pierce.
The akoin cryptocurrency was pre-sold in a 2019 crypto token offering called “token of appreciation.” Each dollar “donation” would give you up to four tokens which would convert to akoin.
Akoin had not launched in Senegal at the time, despite billboards across the country. The West African CFA franc is the only legal currency in Senegal; BCEAO, the central bank, warned that akoin could not be used as a currency in the country.
Akoin promised all manner of functionality—special akoin wallet software, direct exchange with other cryptocurrencies or with cellphone minutes, an application marketplace, various “building blocks for entrepreneurship.” None of this was ever implemented.
Akoin finally started trading on a crypto exchange in November 2020. The akoin token didn’t do anything or have any particular utility; it was just a crypto token that you could trade. Pre-sale buyers dumped their akoin immediately and the price crashed. That’s not unusual: As of 2022, 24 percent of new cryptos fell 90 percent or more in their first week.
Akon posted on social media in January 2020 that he had “finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal”—though he had previously claimed that construction had already started in March 2019. The new city would be built near the small town of Mbodiène, about 100 kilometers south of the capital, Dakar.
Akon City would be a “smart city” inspired by the futuristic African nation of Wakanda from the 2018 movie Black Panther. The city would feature boldly curved skyscrapers, shopping malls, music and movie studios, “eco-friendly” tourist resorts, and a parking garage for flying cars.
Akon claimed in August 2020 that $2 billion of the $6 billion needed to build Akon City had been secured. He laid the foundation stone for the city on Aug. 31, 2020, and said that construction would start “next year,” in 2021.
Construction did not start in 2021, to the disappointment of locals. It was not clear where the $6 billion needed to build Akon City would come from. A representative for KE International, the United States-based contractor for Akon City, told AFP that more than $4 billion had been secured, with Kenyan entrepreneur Julius Mwale as lead investor, and that construction would start in October 2021—but it did not.
By 2022, Akon told the BBC that construction was “100,000 percent moving.” He said the COVID-19 pandemic was partly to blame for the delays. Akon was surprised at the “thousands of studies” that had to be done before work could even commence.
Senegal’s Society for the Development and Promotion of Coasts and Tourist Zones (SAPCO) had claimed the land by eminent domain in 2009 before offering it to Akon City in 2020. By 2023, no building work had been done at the Akon City site—though Axiome Construction insisted that geotechnical studies and environmental assessments were still under way. By this time, according to the Guardian, the only construction was a youth center nearby in Mbodiène, paid for personally by Akon—and built upon the foundation stone that he had laid in 2020.
Senegal finally lost patience with the project. Akon had missed several payments to SAPCO, and in June of this year, SAPCO sent a formal notice to Akon warning that work had to start by the end of July or SAPCO might take back almost all of the land grant.
Akon had already been looking for other opportunities to place akoin. In April 2021, he started talking to Uganda about setting up an Akon City there as well. In January 2022, the Ugandan government allocated him one square mile in Mpunge, in the Mukono district—despite objections from the National Unity Platform party and protests from Mpunge residents wanting compensation, which could not be paid before 2025.
Akon said that Akon City, Uganda, might be completed by 2036. At a 2021 news conference, he evaded questions on what the new city would cost or how it would be funded. The Forum for Democratic Change party said that the Ugandan Akon City would never happen and accused the government of granting “sweetheart deals” to developers.
Akon City was tech solutionism that leveraged the political power of celebrity. Akon wanted to launch a large project and thought that cryptocurrency, the buzzword of 2018, might fund his dream. He thought that this one weird trick would do the job.
In this case, the miracle technology was crypto. These days, such pushes by celebrities or entrepreneurs of new projects will typically use artificial intelligence—whatever that might mean in a particular case—as the marketing hook for a “smart city.
In his 2023 book Let Them Eat Crypto, Peter Howson of Northumbria University detailed how to head off solutionism-inspired blockchain projects that were heavy on publicity but light on the necessary bureaucratic work on the ground. His approach is broadly applicable to tech solutionism in general: Pay attention to the men behind the curtain. Howson has written recently on “smart city” plans as marketing for crypto tokens.
The Akon City plan was a worked example of speculative urbanization. A project is proposed with science-fiction concept drawings and a pitch aimed at tourists rather than locals; land is allocated; something might eventually be built, but it will bear little resemblance to the brochures. Christopher Marcinkoski of the University of Pennsylvania described Akon City as just one of many such initiatives, particularly in Africa, calling it “very much a real estate play.” The important output from such projects is local political capital—even as they never work out as advertised.
Cryptocurrency was an application of speculative urbanization to money—a high concept, a pitch to financial tourists, and the only end result being a token to speculate on and a tremendous amount of fraud. The Akon City project, however good Akon’s own intentions, seems functionally to have been merely the pitch for a crypto offering that failed—leaving an empty site, disappointed locals, and an embarrassed figurehead.
By 2024, akoin had been removed from the few crypto exchanges it had been listed on; it was effectively worthless. Akon sold short videos on Cameo—but he would not do requests related to cryptocurrency.
The speculative urbanization pitch rolls on. Actor Idris Elba has recently floated plans for an “environmentally friendly smart city” on Sherbro Island off Sierra Leone.

In addition to AI, the 10 Million Names Project is employing oral histories and archived documents to help identify 10 million enslaved people in pre- and post-colonial America.
When journalist Dorothy Tucker first learned about the 10 Million Names genealogical project, it helped amplify memories of long car journeys from Chicago to “Down South” in the 1960’s, where her mother’s family owned land.
The Mississippi property purchased by her great-grandfather George Trice in 1881 was special for several reasons. First, nobody’s really sure how a formerly enslaved man was able to purchase 160 acres, but Trice came up with the $800. And every time Tucker and her family drove down to Shannon, Mississippi each summer to visit relatives, it was more than just a vacation.
“I'd wake up in the morning and have breakfast at my aunt's house. I'd go a few feet down the road and have lunch at my great-aunt's house. And then I'd play outside at my cousin's house,” says Tucker, an award-winning investigative journalist with CBS2 WBBM-TV in Chicago. “It was that way all day long. Every house was owned by a relative. I thought everybody lived like this. I thought everybody had land and stuff that was theirs.”
Tucker finally got specific details about how and why that land was purchased during the final months of her term as president of the National Association of Black Journalists. In early 2023, NABJ Board Member Paula Madison, a retired NBC Universal executive, informed the group about an offshoot of the Georgetown Memory Project, the initiative that unearthed information about the 1838 sale of enslaved Africans to fund Georgetown University. The 10 Million Names Project was created to recover the names of an estimated 10 million men, women and children of African descent who were enslaved in pre- and post-colonial America between the 1500’s and 1865. By engaging with expert genealogists, cultural organizations, and family historians both Black and white, the initiative hopes to provide more African Americans with information that only formally began to be captured for their ancestors in the 1870 United States Census.
Up until that year, enslaved Africans and their descendants were only acknowledged as the property of their owners. If their existence was noted, it was in the form of sales documents or as catalogued property in civil records. Also, the relatives of enslavers often maintain troves of information about those purchased and sold off that would otherwise be completely lost.
(This database is helping to uncover the lost ancestry of enslaved African Americans.)
Much of the work will be dependent on oral histories passed down thru generations of families, and researchers of the 10 Million Names Project also hope that more white families will aid in the search by making familial records, like letters and pages from family bibles, available to them.
Tucker, who ended her term as NABJ president during that organization’s annual conference in August, revealed at the awards banquet in Birmingham, Alabama that she’d been able to learn more about her great grandfather’s real-estate ventures, through a collaboration between NABJ and the New England Historical Genealogical Society’s American Ancestors initiative.
The 10 Million Names Project was formally launched at the convention. Tucker considers it an especially timely parting gift to her journalistic colleagues. As societal divisions along racial lines widen, hate crimes continue, and attempts to ban books and curtail African American studies programs in schools and universities increase, strengthening historical knowledge is urgently important for Black Americans, Tucker says.
“I think that the ability to tell these stories and to know them is so critically important,” she says. “When you know your personal story, then as a journalist, it gives you the perspective to dig deeper when you're doing the next story, whether it’s about the school board or about Ukraine or the next elections. You know, these stories are all tools that are really good for all of us.”
How the initiative evolved
The man who is the catalyst for the Georgetown Memory Project and 10 Million Names says he’s never really been interested in investigating his own family tree.
“To me, genealogy was sort of like butterfly collecting,” says Richard Cellini, a faculty fellow at Harvard University and founding director of the Harvard Legacy of Slavery Remembrance Program. “It’s impressive because of the amount of effort invested into it. But I never quite understood the point.”
Cellini was born in 1963 in Central Pennsylvania to a Penn State University professor and homemaker mother. His Catholic upbringing steered him to Georgetown University and an eventual decade-long law career before pivoting toward the software and technology realm. In 2015, Cellini learned that his alma mater had formed a working group to explore the sale of 272 men, woman, and children in 1838 to rescue the university from bankruptcy. As a white American of European descent, he says he did not live with or know many Black people growing up, going to school or during his legal and technology careers, so the initiative opened a window in his mind.
When Georgetown President John DeGioia invited alumni to weigh in, Cellini wrote an email asking one simple question that had nothing to do with the university. He wanted to know, “What happened to the people?”
Cellini says a senior member of the working group wrote back to say that research had concluded that all of the enslaved men, women, and children had died fairly quickly after arriving in the swamps of Louisiana where they had been transported.
“And I remember just staring at that email, even though I didn't really know much about the history of slavery or African American history, and just thinking that just doesn't make any sense,” Cellini says. Curiosity drove him to form an independent research group, funded initially through his own credit card and then from other Georgetown alumni who eagerly offered financial backing. To date, the Georgetown Memory Project has fully identified 236 of the 272 enslaved people sold by the university's leaders. Of those identified through archival records, the project has verified more than 10,000 of their direct descendants.
“The 1838 slave sale at Georgetown brought home to me, again, they were real people with real families and real names,” Cellini says. “More than 50 percent of them were children. William was the youngest, and he was six months old. And Daniel was the oldest at 80. Len was sickly, and Stephen was lame. I mean, this is all from the original documentation. From that moment on, I just couldn't get it out of my head.”
The gathering of history
The genealogists and historians connected with the project suggest that the richest vein of information may well be in the oral histories they’ve already begun gathering through hundreds of interviews. They contain fascinating stories like the ones that Kendra Field’s grandmother Odevia Brown used to tell about her African American and Native American forebears in Oklahoma. When Field was in high school, she never really liked history classes, but she always loved her grandmother’s stories.
“It wasn't until I got to college that I realized, thanks to a wonderful professor, that my grandmother's stories were history,” Field says. After the death of her father, Field began to travel back to those historically Black Oklahoma towns to explore her African American and Creek Indian heritage. Now in her career as a historian, author and professor at Tufts University, Field also has taken on the role of chief historian for 10 Million Names.
Technology, including the use of artificial intelligence programs, is allowing project investigators to do quicker, more efficient searches for information. Field says that can happen by identifying the location of plantation ledgers, advertisements, and receipts from auctions. “Particularly, there's been a lot of advancements made in optical character recognition, which allows researchers to identify names and handwritten records,” Field says.
Prior to this, a researcher had to find the document, transcribe the information, and then pivot to another database to go deeper. But with the development of other genealogical data sets such as Enslaved.org, locating individuals and making connections becomes much easier. “So that means we can move closer to that 10 million much more quickly than we would have been able to even a decade ago,” Field says. Also, the collection at the Library of Congress, “Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers' Project, 1936 to 1938” has yielded important clues from the estimated 2,300 people interviewed during that project.
(The search for lost slave ships led this diver on an extraordinary journey.)
Though identifying 10 million people who were never meant to be known as human beings may sound like a staggering task, the people behind the initiative believe it’s a totally attainable goal—even amidst all the current cultural and ideological turmoil in American society. That’s because, Cellini says, there are certain inalienable truths in this world.
“John Adams said that facts are stubborn things. You know, our Black brothers and sisters have always known their history and white people have always tried to prevent Black people from learning that history. What's new here is that white people are now trying to prevent other white people from learning this history.”
Cellini believes that Black Americans aren’t the only ones who want or need to know the full story. “It's white people who hunger for knowledge of that history, as well. It’s our duty to engage in determined resistance, to strike repeated blows for the truth. And nothing is more stubborn than facts.”
And like journalist Tucker, Cellini believes the search is infinitely for the benefit of the whole of society.
“The hard part isn't the finding,” Cellini says of the effort. “The hard part is the looking. But when we look, we find. And when we find, the whole world changes.”

I’m thinking a random train of thought from the past
I overthink and for some reason, I thought about that time years back pre-covid when I went shopping with my mom at our local grocery store. I was probably 21 at the time, give or take.
I was minding my business checking out the makeup aisle, when a man who was old enough to be my grandfather walked up to me and said that I ,”don’t need them. You’re very pretty.”
I didn’t felt like correcting him as I was caught off guard on why some stranger was comfortable walking up to me out of nowhere. I was more of a nervous wreck then, around people. He probably thought I needed a confidence boost?
I really just like looking at make-up and admiring the packaging designs. Another detail that stood to me was that he had a folded $100 in the front pocket of his shirt, just out in the open. Like if we have a runner around his height, they can easily grab it and go. Lol.
Weirded out, I thanked him and joined my mom the next aisle over, scanning over the things that are on sale in the middle of the floor.
Sure enough, the man also came to that same aisle and was joined by his wife. I briefly said hello awkwardly, and turned my attention to my mom and the items on sale. It was uncomfortable circling around the island of boxes lined up, that I avoided making eye contact with either of them and focus on the stuff on sale, and comforted by the fact I’m with someone during this. Once they left, I thought I was overreacting. We shortly went to check-out the items we got.
After we got to the car and bought our groceries, my mom brought up that couple again. She didn’t know about my interaction with the man, but she told me she noticed that the wife was glaring at me during the time we were at the aisle. Like what I do? XD But I couldn’t confirm that since I didn’t want to look at either of them.
Least weirdest story I had, but it still contributed to being more vigilant with my surroundings.
#pumkin thoughts#not art#story time#it baffles me to this day#smh#at least I’m now less anxious so I can be more adamant if people are being weird

How to Buy a Car Online
Buying a car online offers a unique convenience, but it’s essential to approach the process with a plan.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you purchase a car online confidently and securely.
1. Set a Budget and Define Your Needs
Decide on a budget and list your must-have features. Consider whether you need a new or used car, your preferred make and model, fuel efficiency, and any additional features that matter to you. Establishing your needs early on will help narrow your options and streamline your search.
2. Research Reliable Websites and Sellers
Stick to reputable online car marketplaces and dealership websites to avoid scams. Look for verified sellers, read customer reviews, and check the Better Business Bureau for ratings. Some popular and trusted platforms include Carvana, Autotrader, and Vroom. Many dealerships also offer virtual showrooms with secure purchasing options.
3. Conduct a Thorough Vehicle Inspection
Once you’ve found a car that interests you, request detailed photos and a video tour. Look for any signs of wear, rust, or damage, and ask about the car’s history. For used vehicles, check the VIN and obtain a vehicle history report through CARFAX or AutoCheck. It will provide information on the car’s maintenance record, previous ownership, and any reported accidents.
4. Verify Pricing and Value
Use tools like Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds to get an estimate of the car’s fair market value. Comparing the asking price to these resources ensures you’re paying a reasonable amount and gives you leverage for negotiation.
5. Arrange Financing and Insurance
If you’re not paying in cash, arrange financing through your bank, credit union, or directly through the online car platform if they offer financing options. Shop around for the best interest rates and terms, and get pre-approved if possible. You’ll also need to secure insurance coverage for the car before finalizing the purchase.
6. Schedule a Virtual or In-Person Test Drive
If the car is within reach, test drive it in person to assess comfort, handling, and overall performance. If you’re buying from out of state, many sellers offer virtual test drives via live video calls, where they can demonstrate features and provide a closer look.
7. Negotiate the Price
Don’t hesitate to negotiate, especially if you’ve noticed minor issues or can provide lower price comparisons. Negotiating online is often straightforward, with many platforms allowing you to make offers and negotiate via chat or email.
8. Finalize Paperwork Securely
Complete all necessary paperwork securely, including title transfer, bill of sale, and any required warranty information. Ensure the contract includes any promised services or warranties, and carefully read through all terms. Most online platforms and dealerships will offer a secure digital signing process, or you may be mailed the documents to sign.
9. Arrange Delivery
If the car is far from your location, work with a reliable transport service to have it delivered to your home. Many online car sellers provide their own delivery services, while independent transport services like Viceroy Auto Transport also offer secure and timely vehicle delivery.
10. Inspect Upon Delivery
Once the car arrives, thoroughly inspect it to ensure it matches the listing and is in the agreed-upon condition. Verify that it includes all promised items, such as spare keys or additional equipment, and perform a final test drive if possible.
By following these steps, buying a car online can be a smooth and secure process. With the right preparation, you can find and purchase a vehicle from the comfort of home, making online car shopping a convenient alternative to traditional dealerships.

The Ultimate Guide to Buying a Used Car Like a Pro

Buying a used car can be one of the smartest financial decisions you’ll ever make—if you do it right. With new car prices skyrocketing and depreciation taking a massive bite out of value in the first few years, going the pre-owned route offers major savings. But here’s the catch: the used car market can be tricky to navigate, and if you’re not careful, you could end up with a lemon or overpaying for a vehicle that doesn’t meet your needs. That’s where this guide comes in. Whether you're a first-time buyer or just looking to upgrade, we’ll walk you through how to shop like a seasoned pro.
The journey to buying a great used car starts with research. Before you even step onto a lot or contact a seller, it’s crucial to understand what kind of car fits your lifestyle, needs, and budget. Are you commuting long distances and need something fuel-efficient? Or maybe you’re looking for a family SUV with safety and space in mind. Once you’ve narrowed down your list, compare prices across different platforms—dealerships, private sellers, and certified pre-owned programs—to get a sense of what a fair deal looks like for your chosen models. click here
One of the most important steps in buying a used car is checking the vehicle history report. Services like Carfax and AutoCheck can give you detailed insights into the car’s past, including accident history, title status, mileage verification, and service records. A clean history report doesn't guarantee a perfect car, but it does provide peace of mind and a solid starting point.
When you’ve found a promising car, it’s time for a thorough inspection. Even if the vehicle looks great in photos or on the lot, always take it for a test drive. Pay attention to how it handles, brakes, accelerates, and sounds. Any strange noises, vibrations, or warning lights should be a red flag. It’s also a wise move to have a trusted mechanic perform a pre-purchase inspection. This might cost a bit upfront, but it could save you thousands by uncovering hidden issues.
Negotiation is part of the used car buying experience, and confidence is key. Arm yourself with information about the car’s value from resources like Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds. Use that data, along with any issues uncovered during your inspection or test drive, to negotiate a fair price. Don’t be afraid to walk away if the deal doesn’t feel right—there are always more cars out there.
Finally, when you’re ready to close the deal, make sure all paperwork is in order. This includes the title, bill of sale, any remaining warranties, and a detailed receipt of the transaction. If buying from a dealership, double-check for any hidden fees or unnecessary add-ons.
Buying a used car doesn’t have to be stressful or confusing. With the right approach and a bit of homework, you can drive away with a great vehicle at a price that fits your budget. Remember, patience and preparation are your best tools. Happy car hunting!
